ISRI readies first Design for Recycling award

In the hope of encouraging products that are cheaper and safer to process once they no longer work, the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) is launching an annual Design for Recycling award.

The first award will be presented April 6 at the group's annual convention in Las Vegas. Manufacturers, advocacy groups and lawmakers are all eligible, according to Chuck Carr, an ISRI vice president.

As a program label, Design for Recycling dates back to the early 1990s. ISRI is giving it higher priority as scrapyards face tighter rules on discarded electronics and mercury in vehicles.....
