China drives 4.1% rise in world raw steel production for November

World raw steel production is on a record-setting pace in 2005 thanks largely to major increases in Chinese production, according to figures released by the International Iron and Steel Institute (IISI), Brussels.
Last year was the first time world steel production topped 1 billion tonnes, according to IISI figures. Production has already topped that mark this year with one more month to be counted.
Production in the 61 countries reporting to IISI totaled 94.1 million tonnes in November, up 4.1 percent from the comparable month last year. For the year-to-date, world raw steel production stood at slightly more than 1 billion tonnes, about 6.1 percent higher than the 955.2 million tonnes produced in the first 11 months of 2004.....
