Aluminum puck values rise in Spirit auction

The quarterly auction at recently renamed aerospace manufacturer Spirit AeroSystems Inc., Wichita, Kan., yielded aluminum scrap prices that were typically 13 percent higher than September's levels.

Spectro Alloys Corp., a secondary smelter in Rosemount, Minn., showed itself hungry for briquetted aerospace borings, winning two such "puck" auctions last week.

Having won all four Boeing Co. lots in the Seattle area (AMM, Dec. 19), Spectro also won the corresponding offering at Spirit, which used to be Boeing's Kansas subsidiary.....
