US raw steel output off; one region shows gain

Raw steel output in the United States totaled 1,969,000 tons last week, a 2.2-percent decline from 2,014,000 tons produced the previous week, as mills operated at an average capability utilization rate of 85.2 percent. All but one region posted declines.

In the corresponding period last year, mills produced 2,030,000 tons at an average capability utilization rate of 91.8 percent, according to the American Iron and Steel Institute, Washington.....
