Strong construction mart boosts Chaparral's quarterly net income

Chaparral Steel Co., Midlothian, Texas, citing a strong market for non-residential construction, posted record earnings for its fiscal second quarter ended Nov. 30.
Chaparral's net income rose 61.8 percent to $34 million during the quarter on sales that gained 39.7 percent to $348.1 million vs. the comparable period last year.
Chaparral also posted record operating income of $59.5 million in the quarter, 34.3 percent higher than the operating income of $44.3 million in the year-earlier quarter.....
