Dec 27, 2005 | 10:08 AM | David Brooks

New Boliden Ltd. plans to expand its Harjavalta copper smelter in Finland.

The Sweden-based company said it will spend around 400 million Swedish kroner ($50 million) on "efficiency enhancement and expansion" at Harjavalta, which also will reduce the unit cost of production by around 20 percent.

The upgrade and expansion will see copper anode production increase 27.3 percent to 210,000 tonnes per year from 165,000 tonnes currently, while improvements at the tank house will allow cathode output to reach 153,000 tonnes per year, up 21.4 percent from 126,000 tonnes.....
