Commerce decides to keep import duty on ball bearings

The U.S. Commerce Department has issued a preliminary determination to keep anti-dumping duties on ball bearings.
The Commerce Department said it determined that revocation of the current anti-dumping duty orders on ball bearings from Japan and Singapore is likely to lead to continuation or recurrence of dumping.
U.S.-made ball bearings have had strong protection from foreign manufacturers for years.
Timken Co., Canton, Ohio, which makes ball bearings, has been a big recipient of the Continued Dumping and Subsidy Offset Act, also known as the Byrd Amendment. But the U.S. Senate this month chose to repeal the Byrd Amendment and eliminate the distributions the Treasury Department makes to companies by Oct. 1, 2007 (AMM, Dec. 23).....
