Bid deadline for idle Stelco plate mill extended

The deadline to submit bids for Stelco Inc.'s idle plate mill in Hamilton, Ontario, has been extended one week after more potential buyers showed interest in the property. The new deadline is Nov. 5.
Bidders already have shown considerable interest in the mill, which was idled by financially struggling Stelco in 2003 and put on the auction block.
Casey Equipment Co., Pittsburgh, which is handling the sale for Stelco, said eight contracts had been sent to interested parties. Most of those are expected to submit bids for the mill by the end of this week.....
