Mining majors mum as offers mulled for WMC

Multinational resource companies BHP Billiton, Anglo American Plc and Rio Tinto are considering launching formal bids for WMC Resources Ltd. following a $5.5-billion hostile bid by Xstrata Plc, sources said.
The bid by Xstrata was rejected by the Southbank, Australia,-based copper and nickel miner's board last week (AMM, Oct. 29).....
