Montana maintains ban on cyanide in mining

Voters in Montana have rejected a ballot initiative that would have repealed the state's ban on the use of cyanide in the processing of gold and silver.

Montana voters rejected the plan, known as Initiative 147, by a margin of 59 percent to 41 percent at the polls Tuesday.

"Voters were much more resounding in their rejection of I-147 than they were in passing the original 1998 ban," the Billings Gazette said.....
