Stainless exports dull, but China shines

Exports of stainless steel scrap declined for the second month in a row in August despite steadily rising demand from China, now the leading offshore market for U.S. stainless scrap exporters.
Shipments of 18-8 scrap dipped to 31,122 tonnes in August, according to the U.S. Commerce Department. That is down 10.3 percent from the previous month, when 34,713 tonnes were exported. It was the lowest one-month total since November of last year when 21,352 tonnes went offshore.
The August decline also cut the pace of stainless scrap exports through the first eight months of this year to 322,728 tonnes, a mere 300 tonnes, or 0.1 percent, ahead of last year's pace.....
