Copper Council speakers see transport knots

Companies involved in land or ocean freight are facing widespread cost and infrastructure challenges and should plan for disruptions across the board, attendees at the American Copper Council's fall meeting in Dallas heard last week.
"Every factor affecting transportation is heading in the wrong direction," said Michael Regan, chief executive officer of TranzAct Technologies Inc., an Elmhurst, Ill.,-based logistics provider.
Fuel surcharges, for example, could rise to as high as 15 to 25 cents a mile in some areas of the United States as the price of oil increases, he predicted. Oil prices peaked at $55 a barrel late last month, but Regan said oil prices as high as $80 a barrel weren't impossible.....
