More China aluminum plants expected to close

The Chinese government's efforts to check bristling growth in the country's aluminum industry have been effective, and more aluminum smelters are expected to close this year and next, attendees at Metal Bulletin's 2nd Chinese Aluminium Conference were told Tuesday.

Zhao Wu-zhuang, senior consultant at China's Institute of Nonferrous Metals Technology and Economics, an organization under the auspices of the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association, said the closures would be driven by high alumina prices and the introduction of additional measures by Beijing to slow the industry's rapid growth.....
