Asian buyers lift US shredded exports

U.S. exports of shredded scrap rebounded sharply in September, climbing nearly 112,000 tonnes from the previous month.
Shipments rose to 332,925 tonnes, according to the latest figures from the U.S. Commerce Department, a 50.6-percent jump from 221,124 tonnes in August and the strongest showing since May, when U.S. exporters sent 423,505 tonnes of fragmented scrap to overseas customers.
The September increase reflected stronger sales to several scrap-importing nations but only modest shipments to China, the leading overseas market for U.S. shredded scrap. Shipments to China rose to 47,702 tonnes from 31,823 tonnes in August, but the year-to-date total of 1,036,364 tonnes remained 20.3 percent below 1,300,889 tonnes in the first nine months of last year.....
