Platinum to be in surplus in 2005, JM predicts

The platinum market will see a surplus in 2005 for the first time since 1998, according to Johnson Matthey Plc's 2004 Interim Platinum Review released Tuesday.

Although 2004 demand is expected to rise slightly to a new high of 6.47 million ounces, the deficit for the year is expected to shrink to just 40,000 ounces, down from 720,000 ounces in 1999.....
