Calif. car shredder plan gets go-ahead

Colton City Council members last week unanimously approved a new car shredder operation in the southern California city despite the objections of some local residents and a neighboring metal recycler.
The council approved a request by Pacific Rail Industries--a Colton scrapyard--to install a long-awaited and highly contested auto shredder (AMM, Sept. 2).
Wednesday's 6-to-0 vote upheld earlier approvals from the Colton Planning Commission (AMM, Oct. 14) and cleared away the last legal hurdles, opening the door for Pacific Rail to pursue the project.....
