Service centers' steel shipments slide 4.4%

Metals service center shipments of steel declined in October from year-earlier levels for the first time in more than a year, slipping 4.4 percent, and were down from month-earlier levels for the second straight month.

Industry inventories continued a six-month climb that brought them to 15.4 million tons, the highest level since late 2000 when inventories spiked to more than 16 million tons, the Chicago-based Metals Service Center Institute (MSCI) said in its October metals activity report for U.S. service centers.....
