Sept. stainless scrap exports climb 12%

Offshore sales of stainless steel scrap shone a little brighter in September, rising 12 percent from the previous month.
Shipments increased to 34,842 tonnes, up more than 3,700 tonnes from 31,122 tonnes in August, according to the latest statistics from the U.S. Commerce Department. Modest gains in the tonnage shipped to several Asian nations accounted for the September rebound.
Through the first nine months of this year, exports were 1.1 percent ahead of the same period last year and up almost 20 percent from the same nine-month span of 2002.....
