Gerdau Ameristeel earmarks up to $120M for mill upgrades

Gerdau Ameristeel Corp. plans to make $110 million to $120 million in capital improvements at several of its plants in 2005.
The company said it is looking to upgrade the casters at its plants in Whitby, Ontario, and Perth Amboy, N.J., at a cost of $16 million each; a new $8-million to $10-million reheat furnace is planned for the Sayreville, N.J., operation; $10 million to $15 million in upgrades are slated in the finishing area, specifically bundling and stacking, at its Cartersville, Ga., plant; and a $12-million baghouse is to be installed at its....
