Turkish, Thai buys lift heavy melt exports

A buying binge by Turkish and Thai steelmakers propelled U.S. exports of No. 1 heavy melting steel scrap in September to their highest level in four months, offsetting lower sales to other key scrap-importing nations in the Far East.
Exports of No. 1 heavy melt rose to 200,967 tonnes, according to the latest figures from the U.S. Commerce Department, up 23.1 percent from 163,208 tonnes the previous month. It was the first time that exports of the bellwether grade of cut ferrous scrap crossed the 200,000-tonne mark since May, when close to 217,000 tonnes were sent overseas (AMM, Aug. 4).....
