Xstrata shuts ferrochrome furnaces for maintenance; fire hits another

Xstrata Alloys will temporarily shut two ferrochrome furnaces at its Wonderkop ferrochrome operation in South Africa's North West province
The furnaces will shut Dec. 1 and won't open again until August 2005.
"The suspension is required to conduct much-needed maintenance on the furnaces. Given the higher costs of power, especially from the second quarter, it is envisaged that these furnaces will be returned to production only at the end of August 2005,"....
