Brass ingot makers not invited to party

Although the outlook may be brighter for many in the secondary nonferrous metal industries, brass ingot makers say they still face tremendous challenges next year and beyond.
Perpetually troubled by overcapacity and foreign competition, several major ingot makers forecast rough times next year even though many operators in other metal industry segments are closing their books on a record-breaking 2004.
"It's definitely a challenge. If you handled ferrous this year, you had a tough time not making money," an executive at a Midwest ingot maker said. "But it was very tough getting by on ingot alone and it's not going to get any easier next year."....
