Base metals get some bounce from fresh wave of speculation

Copper pushed above $3,000 per tonne Wednesday for the first time in a week on the back of fresh speculative buying, traders said.

After closing ahead of the pack Tuesday, copper continued to gain Wednesday. The three-month copper contract on the London Metal Exchange rallied to an intraday high of $3,017 a tonne, while on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange the benchmark March contract traded as high as $1.387 a pound, up....
