USS boosting flat-roll prices $30 to $50/ton

U.S. Steel Corp., Pittsburgh, is telling customers it intends to increase prices on carbon flat-rolled sheet products by $30 to $50 per ton effective Jan. 3, according to market sources.
U.S. Steel no longer makes public announcements of price increases. A company spokesman said Friday that it is U.S. Steel's policy to price to market and to make any pricing moves necessary to maintain its competitive position.
The move follows a similar action by AK Steel Corp., Middletown, Ohio, which earlier this month indicated it would attempt to increase flat-rolled sheet prices by $50 per ton effective with January shipments (AMM, Dec. 7).....
