World steel output poised to pass 1B-tonne mark

The world steel industry was expected to produce its 1-billionth tonne of steel Monday, marking the first time annual output has topped the 1-billion-tonne mark, the International Iron and Steel Institute (IISI), Brussels, said.
Raw steel production by the 62 countries reporting to the IISI was averaging about 2.8 million tonnes per day through the first 11 months of this year, up 9 percent from the same period last year to 945.2 million tonnes.....
