CMC's quarterly earnings, sales up sharply

Commercial Metals Co. (CMC) Monday posted sharply higher earnings for its fiscal first quarter, citing strong demand and higher prices.

The Irving, Texas,-based steelmaker reported net income of $73.7 million for the three months ended Nov. 30 compared with $12.6 million in the same period last year on sales that jumped 84.2 percent to $1.53 billion from $830 million.....
