Top Ind. Court approves $53M USS settlement

U.S. Steel Corp., Pittsburgh, and some Indiana taxpayers got an early Christmas gift when the Indiana Supreme Court upheld a $53-million tax settlement the company reached in March with the state of Indiana and Lake County.

Scott King, mayor of Gary, Ind., home of U.S. Steel's flagship plant, said in published reports that the settlement, deemed the largest property tax settlement in state history, should ease pressure on local taxpayers who face two years worth of property tax bills because of reassessment delays.....
