Indonesian police remain undeterred by a court ruling that the ongoing investigation of alleged pollution by Newmont Mining Corp.'s PT Newmont Minahasa Raya operation on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi is illegal, and said they will proceed with criminal charges against the company

Newmont's Indonesian unit said the South Jakarta District Court ruled that the investigation--which in October led to a 30-day detention of six Newmont executives--transgressed three regulations an April 2004 decree that requires civil servants rather than police to investigate alleged environmental wrongdoing; that state penal law should....
