Copper exports jump past 70,000T mark

U.S. exports of copper and brass scrap began the fourth quarter with a bang as the weak dollar spurred a foreign buying binge.

Even with copper scrap prices trending to the highest level in four years, offshore sales of the material spiked yet again, breaking through the 70,000-short-ton barrier for the fourth time in 10 months.

According to the latest U.S. Commerce Department figures, 72,508 tons of copper and brass scrap were shipped overseas in October, the third-largest monthly total in 13 years, and the average price of 58 cents per pound was the highest level in four years.....
