Ohio steel sees '04 shaping up as banner year

Ohio's steel industry saw shipping and production levels reach a four-year high during the first nine months of 2004, reflecting strong demand in most steel markets.
Steel production during the nine-month period totaled 11 million tons, up 14.9 percent from the same period last year and the highest figure since 2000, when nine-month output reached 13.6 million tons, according to data released Wednesday by the Ohio Steel Council.
Shipments totaled 11.4 million tons in the first nine months of this year, up 13.4 percent from a year earlier. Shipments also were the highest since 2000, when they reached 12.2 million tons.....
