Bethlehem salaried retirees to get $100 each for lost health coverage

Retired salaried employees of Bethlehem Steel Corp. will soon get some money from the trust that controls a portion of the former steel giant's assets.
Checks totaling about $100 each will be sent to 28,000 non-unionized retirees and their spouses in the next few weeks to make up for health-care benefits they no longer receive.
The Bethlehem Steel Corp. Liquidating Trust is distributing the checks as part of an agreement approved by a U.S. bankruptcy court last week to provide some recompense for retired salaried workers who lost health benefits. The former Bethlehem, Pa.,-based steel company filed for bankruptcy in October 2001 and entered a deal to be acquired by International Steel....
