Nymex futures log small gains ahead of New Year's weekend

Metals futures on the New York Mercantile Exchange closed up slightly in light pre-holiday trading.

Palladium was the only contract to end the shortened trading session lower.

"There's been a lot of last minute moves in copper," one trader said. "Yesterday, it was at $1.4525 a pound a minute before close and then it dropped to $1.4450."....
