Hugo Neu fluff project on track as N.C. court rejects challenge

A first-of-its-kind shredder fluff operation proposed by Hugo Neu Corp. got a boost after North Carolina courts dismissed a lawsuit challenging land permits issued to the New York-based scrap processor.
The Brunswick County Superior Court earlier in December dismissed all civil charges connected to Hugo Neu's proposal that contested several permits issued by municipal officials in Navassa, N.C.
The New Brunswick Citizens for a Safe Environment (NBCSE) filed suit in August, claiming that city officials violated the town charter and couldn't issue permits for the recycling facility. But on Dec. 17, Superior Court Judge Jack A. Thompson ruled Navassa officials operated within their allotted powers when they annexed more than 750 acres of property in 2003 and issued a franchise permit to Hugo....
