Lakeside sets temporary layoffs

Tubular steel products maker Lakeside Steel Corp. is temporarily laying off nearly 11 percent of its unionized work force in Welland, Ontario.

Rick Alakas, president of Canadian Auto Workers union Local 523, which represents 369 workers at the plant, said the job cuts were not unexpected. The action will affect 40 employees. "We've been reporting....
