July auto sales reflect slow recovery

Car and truck sales by the top seven automakers in the United States increased 4.9 percent in July from the previous month, but it was not nearly enough to make up for an 11.9-percent decline in June.
Sales by the top seven automakers totaled 867,437 vehicles last month, up from 826,763 in June and 3.6 percent above 837,047 vehicles in July 2009, which marked the beginning of the "Cash for Clunkers" trade-in incentive program. The seven-month total of 5.52 million vehicles was up 14.4 percent from 4.82 million in the same period last year.....
