An upstate New York lead smelter faces a civil penalty of $953,000 for alleged environmental violations following a water spill.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has accused Middletwon, N.Y-based Revere Smelting & Refining Corp. of failing to report and manage a "catastrophic spill" that occurred in September 2009 and subsequently illegally moving contaminated material to a previously screened....
