Upward pressure mounting in titanium melters’ feedstock market

Upward price pressure appears to be building in the titanium melters’ feedstock market.

Eagle Scrap Metal, Placentia, Calif., was the apparent high bidder at $6.54 per pound for 41,100 pounds of bulk 6 aluminum/4 vanadium titanium scrap generated at the Seattle-area plants of Chicago-based Boeing Co.

Eagle's bid topped by 3.5 percent the previous winning bid of $6.32 per pound opened by Boeing earlier in October, continuing what has been a steady improvement in the price of titanium scrap for most of this year.

Some market sources noted, however, that since they weren't familiar with Eagle Scrap Metal and where the material was likely to end up, it was difficult to say if subsequent bids were likely to meet the new high.....
