ASD’s Barnett sounds off on China’s investment in US steel industry

The Association of Steel Distributors (ASD), historically a supporter of "free trade" when it comes to foreign steel's role in the U.S. market, is now emphasizing the issue of "fair trade" as its top elected officer sounds off against a Chinese investment in a domestic steelmaking venture.

ASD president James Barnett described an agreement by Anshan Iron & Steel Group Corp. (Ansteel) to make a 14-percent investment in Steel Development Co. LLC (SDCO) as "another Chinese end-run around the concept of free and fair trade," adding that he expects Ansteel's stake in SDCO to grow.....
