Heavy melt exports hit 12-month high

A surge in shipments to Taiwan and a modest uptick in sales to Turkish steelmakers boosted U.S. exports of No. 1 heavy melting steel scrap in August to its highest level in 12 months.
Exports of the bellwether grade of cut ferrous scrap jumped 33.6 percent to 575,191 tonnes in August from 430,520 tonnes the previous month, according to the latest figures from the U.S. Commerce Department. It was the highest tonnage of No. 1 heavy melt to leave the United States since August last year, when 608,628 tonnes were exported.....
