Two Massachusetts recyclers agree to settle environment suits

Two Massachusetts recyclers have agreed to pay a total of $230,000 and implement changes at their facilities to settle lawsuits filed by an environmental group.
Clean Water Action had filed separate complaints against Allied Recycling Center Inc., Walpole, Mass., and State Line Scrap Co. Inc., Attleboro, Mass., last year, claiming that neither the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) nor the Commonwealth of Massachusetts had taken steps to make sure the parties complied with the federal Clean Water Act (AMM, Nov. 17 and 25, 2009). The environmental group had said it was forced to file the lawsuits in U.S. District Court for Massachusetts....
