Max Aicher gearing for restart of former Stelco bar mill

Max Aicher North America Inc. (MANA) is getting ready to restart the bar mill assets of the former Stelco Inc., which it acquired two weeks ago, having hired temporary hourly maintenance and electrical workers.
The company has outlined plans to build a bar finishing facility on site in Hamilton, Ontario, as it works to get Stelco's customers back, with plans to eventually build an electric arc furnace, Rolf Gerstenberger, president of United Steelworkers union Local 1005, told AMM Monday.
"(Aicher) also announced they plan to spend quite a bit of money," he said, noting that MANA had closed its $106.2-million purchase with U.S. Steel Canada, which shut down the bar mill in December 2008.
As of Nov. 15, about 65 employees had agreed to go with the sale, Gerstenberger said.....
