Ameristeel lifts beams prices; more to follow

Gerdau Ameristeel Corp. got a head start on an expected round of wide-flange beam hikes with an immediate $20-per-ton increase—and an indication of more to come.
The Tampa, Fla.-based producer notified customers Friday that it raised prices for all new orders, according market sources. Orders confirmed as of Dec. 2 will be protected at the previous price if shipped before Jan. 16 of next year.
Moreover, these sources quoted Gerdau Ameristeel as saying the market remains "very volatile" and that the company anticipates "further increases in the near future." The company declined to comment.....
