Chinese, Korean imports worrying stainless tubular producers

Domestic stainless steel tubular manufacturers are on the alert for an increase in foreign imports, particularly from China and Korea.
The Stainless Steel Tube Trade Advancement Committee (SSTTAC), a trade group that represents domestic stainless tubular producers, said it is also concerned that a European Union trade case filed in August against China will prompt that Asian nation to find a new home for its extra material the United States.
David A. Hartquist, counsel for SSTTAC, said the group is watching developments in the EU case carefully.
"The evidence presented to the European Commission indicates that the Chinese have been dumping seamless stainless steel pipe and tube into Europe in violation of the EU trade laws," Hartquist said. "Our members believe that similar dumping is occurring in the United States market."
Hartquist said the SSTTAC understands the need for European producers to take action. ....
