SMA supports gas tax hike for transportation program

The Steel Manufacturers Association (SMA) endorsed a recommendation to nearly double the gas tax to adequately pay for the Transportation Trust Fund and "stop the abuse of emergency spending."
The bipartisan National Commission of Fiscal Responsibility and Reform issued a 65-page "Moment of Truth" report that contains numerous recommendations to help rein in spending and reduce the federal deficit.
The committee recommended that Congress fully fund the Transportation Trust Fund instead of relying on deficit spending.....
