China agrees to extend scrap licence deadline

China's General Administration for Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) has agreed to extend the timetable for foreign scrap exporters to file licence renewal applications by 90 days beyond the Dec. 31 deadline, the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) and the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) said Monday in separate statements.
Brussels-based BIR said it sent a letter to AQSIQ last week pointing out the importance of giving more time for renewal applications. "We are very concerned that because of the high number of (re)applicants .?.?. many well-established companies which have already been officially accepted as 'overseas suppliers' for the last three years or more will not get their 2011-2013 licences renewed," BIR director-general Francis Veys wrote.....
