FACTS Alumina imports drop to three-month low

China's alumina imports shrank to a three-month low of 270,000 tonnes in November, according to preliminary data from China's General Administration of Customs, as aluminum smelters were forced to cut production as part of efforts to meet national emission targets.
"The lower imports are mainly due to less demand from aluminium producers, as they were reducing production due to blackouts," a Beijing analyst told AMM sister publication Metal Bulletin.
China's copper imports rebounded in November from a 12-month low in October, encouraged by rising prices at home and abroad. "It is reasonable, I think, as the figure in October was too low—it was an exception due to the week-long holiday and the market also being not good at that time," said an analyst in Beijing, forecasting that December imports will be at a similar level.....
