U.S. Pipe strike ends as USW ratifies contract

Unionized workers returned to work Monday at U.S. Pipe & Foundry LLC's Bessemer, Ala., ductile iron pipe and fittings plants after ratifying a new labor deal Saturday.
United Steelworkers union Local 2140, which represents workers at Bessemer, agreed to the same contract they had twice rejected before going on strike, a spokesman for parent Mueller Water Products Inc. said.
"The terms did not change," he said. "We're glad they ratified the contract . . . and the important thing is they are back at work."
Morris Anderson, subdirector of USW District 9 and lead negotiator for the USW, confirmed the contract had been ratified. He said he had initially tried to convince union members to accept the company's offer but they refused until they realized the company could continue without them. District 9 covers the southeastern United States.....
