More W. Coast flat-roll hikes eyed as Feb. order books open

West Coast flat-rolled steel producers are looking to implement further price hikes as they open their books for product to be delivered in February.
Both California Steel Industries Inc. (CSI), Fontana, Calif., and USS-Posco Industries, Pittsburg, Calif., have closed out January order books and opened up those for February at prices representing an increase of about $40 per ton ($2 per hundredweight), market sources said.
With the increase, hot-rolled coil is reported in the range of $35 to $36 per cwt ($700 to $720 per ton). Prices for cold-rolled coils, in some cases, have moved above $40 per cwt ($800 per ton), and base tags for galvanized as high as $41.50 to $42 per cwt ($830 to $840 per ton). Both CSI and UPI produce cold-rolled and galvanized steel, while CSI also supplies hot-rolled product.....
