More metalformers see blue skies ahead

The number of metalforming companies predicting a rise in economic activity over the next three months doubled to 40 percent this month from 20 percent in November, and only 14 percent foresee a downturn vs. 23 percent in November.

It was the highest level of survey respondents forecasting an uptick since May 2010 and compares with a low of just 9 percent in February 2009, the Precision Metalforming Association (PMA) said in its latest business conditions report.

Executives at stampers and tool and die makers told AMM that they anticipate a good first quarter despite some lingering uncertainty in a fragile recovery and the continuing onslaught of global competition.....
