Turret Steel acquires Wilcox; deal seen revitalizing cold drawer firm

Turret Steel Industries Inc.'s purchase this week of cold drawer and bar processor Wilcox Steel may give the acquired company new life for the second time in five years, Turret's top executive told AMM on Tuesday.
Green Bay, Wis.-based Wilcox was previously part of Fort Howard Steel, Oak Creek, Wis., but shut its doors after it was left out of Nucor Corp.'s acquisition of the parent company in February 2005.
Wilcox was revived in September 2005 after it was purchased by a Pennsylvania company that successfully operated the cold drawer processor.
At its peak, Wilcox shipped 40,000 tons of bar per year out of the 63,000-square-foot plant. "It takes a lot of 1/2-inch rounds to get to that volume," Turret president and chief executive officer Wayne Gould told AMM.....
